Gina was born in Omaha, NE, on June 9th, 1976, to Bill and Karen (Kieffer) Rongisch. The Rongisch family welcomed Gina's brother, Brent, in 1979 and sister, Michelle, in 1981. Gina graduated from Scotus Central Catholic High School in 1994 and later graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1997.
In 1997, Gina married Thomas "Tom" Fechter, whom she met while they attended UNL, at the United States Marine Memorial Chapel in Quantico, VA. They relocated to Pensacola, FL, Corpus Christi, TX, and Austin, TX. She volunteered at the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and later took pride in her work as the Capitol Improvements Project Manager for the Engineering Department for the City of Pflugerville, TX.
Gina and Tom had their firstborn, Aidan, in 2004 in Austin, TX. ln 2009, when Tom accepted a job in the U.S. Department of Justice in New York City, NY, Gina took on a full-time role of caring for Aidan and eventually their second child, Catherine "Katie", who was born in Manhattan, NY, in 2011.
Tom's career brought opportunities to move to Brooklyn, NY, Scotch Plains, NJ, and Oakton, VA. Despite where they were in the country, Gina continued to be friendly and outgoing and quickly made friends within the community and the Catholic church. Her life was devoted to being the best mother and wife possible. Whether it was picking them up from school, driving them to sports practice, or cooking a late dinner, Gina always provided for her children.
This past year, Gina and Tom got the opportunity to move to Omaha, NE, where they could be closer to their family and their son Aidan, who is attending college at Iowa State University. Gina continued to keep busy in Omaha, driving Katie to practices and meets with her competitive gymnastics schedule.
Gina was a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker football fan, a passion that united her with her husband, children, parents, and other family and friends. She was also a beloved dog mom, taking care of the Fechter's two Dalmatians and their current German Shepherd.
Gina was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister and aunt, whose undisputable warmth and affection lit up the room when she walked in. She will be dearly missed by all her friends and family.
