Willis L. Schreiber, age 72, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday June 2, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Memorial Services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday June 4, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church - Shell Creek rural Columbus, Nebraska with Reverend Peter Jark-Swain officiating. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home and from 1:00 p.m. - service time Wednesday at church.

Willis L. Schreiber was born August 5, 1930 in Columbus, Nebraska to Oscar and Clara (Benning) Schreiber. He attended District #44 and Columbus High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from November 16, 1951 until November 15, 1953. Following his discharge he returned to Columbus where he farmed and worked at the Columbus Hatchery. He was married to Marlene Thurstonson Smith on February 4, 1978 at St. Johns Lutheran Church. Willis worked for the Platte County Ag Park during the horse racing season and during the fair. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Hartman Post #84 American Legion, Eagles Aerie #1834, and volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center. Willis was a resident at Mory's Haven since November.
