William Charles Werts of Columbus died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Monday, June 10, 2019 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation is on Sunday from 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service beginning at 5:00, also at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9:30 am until service time at St. Isidore Church. A luncheon will follow at the church with graveside services set for 2:00 pm on Monday at the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in St. Edward, NE.
William Charles Werts was born March 23, 1935 on a farm northwest of St. Edward to Charles and Helen (Boltz) Werts.
William began his education at Mount Pleasant Country School and then attended St. Edward School. On January 15, 1955, William was united in marriage to Iola Zabka at the St. Edward Catholic Church rectory. The couple lived on a farm west of Columbus for over 60 years. William worked at Behlen Manufacturing from 1953 until retiring in 1997 after 44 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren. In retirement he enjoyed wood working, traveling and working on the farm.
William was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
