Bill gained his wings at Columbus Community Hospital on March 29, 2025 after a battle with heart health.
Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025 at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation is 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, at McKown Funeral Home.
Bill was born in Humphrey on June 12, 1944 to Regina (Ternus) and Raymond Jansen. He later moved to Columbus as a child. Bill graduated from Columbus High in 1962. He worked many jobs over the years and enlisted in the Navy where he was a musician for four years playing the trombone. He managed Holiday Station Stores in Des Moines and Grand Island, owned and operated Gambles Hardware in Genoa, Fleischer Manufacturing, the Columbus Telegram, Shell Valley Wheels, Gaver Tire, and the City of Columbus where he enjoyed running the loader in the grass yard. Bill had many hot rods over the years and enjoyed going to car shows. He never met a stranger and was friends with all. He met and married Deborah Reed on September 12, 1991.
Bill will be missed by many especially his children Scott (Genia), Tami (Ray), Todd (Tanya), Chad (Shari), son Larry (Farah) Balmer. 19 grandkids, 17 great grandkids, stepchildren Megan (Andrew), Travis (Laura), Brother-in-law Jim Hastreiter, Father in law George Reed.
