William "Bill" Coan of Platte Center died Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Bill Coan, son of Patrick J. Coan and Eva (Sumovich) Coan, was born in St. Edward on September 18, 1925. He grew up on a farm near St Edward where he farmed with his dad and brothers. He graduated from St. Edward High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a medical clerk.
In 1953, he met Donna Lou Smith and they were later married on November 17th, 1954. Bill and Donna started their life together in rural Platte Center where Bill established the family farm, and raised crops and livestock. This farm is where the couple raised their six children. Bills life revolved around family and farm.
Survivors: Wife, Donna Lou Coan; three sons: Pat (Cindy) Coan of Columbus; Mike Coan of Platte Center; Kevin (Robin) Coan of Platte Center; three daughters: Kathleen (Tom) Shemek of Columbus; Connie Coan of Platte Center; and Kelly (Tom) Theilen of Columbus.
Grandchildren: Melissa Shemek of New York City; Dr. Angela Shemek of Omaha; Paige Theilen, Alyssa Theilen and Jordan Theilen of Columbus; Makayla Coan and Megan Coan of Platte Center; Keith Coan and Canice Coan of Omaha; Step-grand children: Wes Boruch of Lincoln; Danielle Boruch and Chelsey Boruch of Omaha.
Preceded in death by parents Patrick J. and Eva, and brothers Bernard F. Coan, Edward J. Coan.
