William "Bill" Brandt,Jr., 76, of Columbus died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at his home in Columbus. Funeral services are 10:30 am Wednesday, September 5, at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation is on Tuesday from 3-8 pm and on Wednesday from 9:30 until service time at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in Columbus Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Camp Pawnee.
William "Bill" H. Brandt, Jr was born May 18, 1931 in Lewiston, NE to William F., Sr., and Edna R. (Kurz) Brandt. He grew up in Scribner and Columbus before joining the US Army on September 12,1948. He served until June 21,1952. Bill was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" A. Cook on June 30, 1954 at St. Anthony's Church in Columbus. Bill worked for Fredrickson Co, Marr's Cone Co, and Mission Pop Company before retiring from Behlen Manufacturing where he worked in all the States of the Union except Hawaii and Alaska. He also worked in Guatemala, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. He spent his retirement of 22 years doing volunteer work for Camp Pawnee. Bill loved to hunt, trap, and fish. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, member of the American Legion, and a 30 year member of the Eagle's Club. He enjoyed his 8 grandchildren and loved to have the 8 great grandchildren around.
