William L. Anson of Genoa, formerly of Columbus, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Genoa Community Hospital/LTC.
William L. Anson was born June 9, 1926 in Creston, Nebraska to Arthur S. and Mary Mae (Hall) Anson. He graduated from Creston H.S. in 1943 and from Northwestern University in Chicago. William served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from March 1944 - May 1947 aboard the USS St. Paul. On June 14, 1948 he was united in marriage to Dorothy H. Streblow at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humphrey, Nebraska. The couple lived briefly in St. Louis, Missouri while he attended David Rankin Mechanical School. They then lived in Creston and Madison before moving to Columbus in 1953. Bill worked as a mechanic for 2 1/2 years and then for Becton - Dickinson for 30 years until retiring in 1981. Following his retirement he worked at New World Inn for 5 years and had been doing private driving for Becton Dickinson and local citizens. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as the Sunday school superintendent, teacher, and on various church boards. He was a member of Hartman Post #84 American Legion where he served as past commander, Legion Chorus member, and on the Honor Guard having served on 191 services. Bill was also a founding member of the Becton - Dickinson Alumni Association. Bill enjoyed singing in the church choir for over 50 years and in the Messiah Choir. Bill also loved bowling, fishing, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
