Wesley Bird, age 92, of Columbus, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Wesley was born November 26, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska to William and Anna (Wilcynski) Bird. Wes attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1938. He enlisted in the Army and attended school for bakers and cooks. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor from World War II. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1945 and served in the National Guard until 1949. Wes married Jean Berger on July 7, 1945 in Columbus, Nebraska and remained married for 55 years until death took her from him. He worked for Cornhusker Public Power from 1947 until his retirement in 1983 after 36 years of service. Wes loved hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed gardening but his true love was cooking .He was a member of St. Anthony Legion of Mary, The Eagles Club, and the V.F.W. Post #3704.

Wes was preceded in death by his mother, father and step father, wife: Jean, brothers: Frank and John Schwartzer, and 1 sister in infancy
