Werner R. "Gary" Cromwell, 85, was born in Genoa, Nebraska on February 28,1930 to Werner E. and Lila (Anderson) Cromwell. He died at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln on May 8, 2015. He attended school in Genoa. He served in the U.S. Navy active duty 1948 to 1949 and the Reserves from 1949 to 1955.
He married Dorothy (Wozny) Cromwell on May 24,1950. They had two daughters to this union, Jane L. Cromwell of Schuyler and Joan K. Cromwell of Lincoln. He lived in Columbus and Genoa throughout his life. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad and General Telephone Co. In the late 1960's he owned and operated the WRC Ranch south of Columbus. He was car salesman, mechanic and self employed as a roofing contractor. In the course of his life he made many friends. He was a kind and generous man.
He always had a smile on his face and joked with everyone. Family was a priority in his life and he enjoyed traveling with them. He and his family took many trips to Walt Disney World. He had a love for all animals and owned horses throughout his life.
He was a member of the VFW, founding member of the Genoa Saddle Club, past football coach and referee, member of the Columbus Jay-Cees, Knight of Columbus and St. Isidore's Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Jane and Joan (Stu Friesen); Grand daughters: Leslie (Chris) Styskal of Genoa, Amanda (Jeremy) Stutzman of David City; Great Grandchildren: Joshua, Caleb, Isaac and Elizabeth Styskal and Hunter and Brooklyn Stutzman. Also remembered by many nieces, nephews and his extended family of friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (2013) and his sister Betty Lee Bowman.
