Walter W Egger

Walter died Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.

Walter William Egger was born June 10, 1919 in Columbus, Nebraska to Moritz and Ida (Houser) Egger. He worked with his father on the farm in his younger life. On September 8, 1941 he was united in marriage to Lorraine M. Ewert, daughter of Edward W. and Anna (Ebner) Ewert, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center. He then enrolled in schooling at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft School in Omaha. After completing the school he was employed at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft factory and they moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1941. In 1943 he was transferred to the Glenn Martin Factory in Omaha. In 1945 they returned to Columbus where he started a farming operation raising milk cows, beef cattle hogs and chickens. They lived on the same farm for 40 years until retiring and moving to Columbus in 1983. Walter enjoyed returning to the farm to help his son Gary with the farming operations which he took over. He also enjoyed gardening and working outside. His main hobby was playing cards with his friends in town at the Eagles Club. He was a member of St. Isidore Church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club. Walter took great pride in the farming operations that he and his helper Lorraine accomplished in their 40 years on the farm. He also enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their school activities and awards which they achieved. Walter will always be remembered as a giving person who enjoyed all his neighbors and friends. His family was his pride and joy in every way. Walter and Lorraine enjoyed going to many barn dances and belonging to many dance clubs.
