Virginia Heimann

October 12, 1933 — July 11, 2011

Virginia Heimann died Monday, July 11, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Columbus, Nebraska.

Virginia Heimann, the daughter of John and Adela (Dvorak) Knust, was born October 13, 1933 at Howells, Nebraska. She graduated from Howells High School in 1951. Virginia was united in marriage to Melvin Heimann on October 14, 1952 in Olean, Nebraska.

They moved to Columbus in 1952 and Virginia worked as a teller at Columbus Bank. In 1956 she and Melvin started and established Mels TV, where she was the primary secretary and bookkeeper. She developed many lasting friendships over those years with the many customers and people she met. She was a great conversationalist and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone.

Virginia lived for her family, enjoying all that she could with her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved the many sporting events her entire family engaged in particularly closely following the many games her husband played and sponsoring Mels TV. She and Mel ran many Columbus softball tournaments together where she always manned the concession stands. She would drop just about anything to play games with her grandchildren, such as Aggravation, dice games and any card games or to take them cruising the mains. She loved to fish, often picking up one or all of her grandchildren to go along. She loved to play bridge and played for years in different bridge clubs. She was always known for her humor and her genuine zest for finding fun in the simple things in life. Not many could out organize her as she was always very detail oriented.

Virginia was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and past member of Christian Mothers. She participated in Prayer Lines for the Church.

She is survived by her husband Mel Heimann of Columbus, NE, daughter Linda (Joe) Lambert of Lincoln, NE, granddaughter: Mimi (Brian) Potter and great-grandchildren: Chase and Lucy of Lincoln; grandson: Corbin (Heather) Lambert, great-grandchildren: Maddox and Graham of Lincoln; son Duane (Ginger) Heimann of Denver, CO, granddaughter Lindsay (Nate) Poss, and grandchildren: Piper and Nolan, of Denver, CO; daughter Susi (Larry) Kobus of Columbus, NE, grandson Chad (Lindsay) Kobus and great-granddaughter Sadie of Lincoln, NE; granddaughter Jennifer (Matt) ODowd and twin grandchildren: Aiden and Madison, of Omaha, NE; daughter Cindy (Mike) Pile of Columbus, NE, grandson Nathan Pile and fianc Misty Schneider of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter Meghan (Rob) Campbell and great-granddaughter Peyton, of Omaha, NE, and her brother Glenn (Pat) Knust of Grand Island, NE.
