Virginia V. Gerber

Virginia died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Mory's Haven in Columbus.

Virginia V. Gerber was born July 4, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to August and Victoria (Wetovick) Warholoski. She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1942 and then graduated from Huber Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Sisters of Mesericordia, Pana, Illinois in 1947, and completed post-graduate clinicals in St. Louis Missouri City Hospital and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. On September 27, 1947 she was united in marriage to Lt. Frederick W. Gerber Jr. at Randolf Field near San Antonio, Texas. They lived in many states and in Canada throughout his Air Force career, moving back to Columbus after his retirement in 1961. Virginia worked as a surgical nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and Behlen Memorial Hospital, where she served as Operating Room Supervisor continuing through the merger of the two hospitals. Virginia worked as Director of Nursing at Morys Haven, and was track nurse for the Platte County Ag Society, managing the first-aid station for live meet racing and the Platte County Fair for many years. She retired after 50 years of nursing. Virginia volunteered her time for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, the Shriner's Organization and served as a docent for the Art Gallery at the Columbus Public Library. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church.
Virginia enjoyed many creative hobbies, including painting, sewing and calligraphy. She enjoyed gardening, reading and was an avid golf and football fan. Virginia was cherished by many good friends. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and will be dearly missed.

Granddaughter: Alison (David) Dibelka of Omaha, NE
Grandson: WO1 Nathaniel (MSG Catherine) Bahr of Illisheim, Germany
Grandson: Anthony Bahr of Columbus, NE
Grandson: Matthew Bahr of Columbus, NE
Granddaughter: Minna Gerber of Hendersen, NV
Grandson: William Gerber of Omaha, NE
