Virgil Pilakowski passed away peacefully on March 14, 2018 with his wife Betty by his side at Cottonwood Place in Columbus, Nebraska following a brief battle with cancer.
Virgil V. Pilakowski was born October 17, 1942 in Genoa, Nebraska to Edmund and Estella (Bogus) Pilakowski. He grew up on a farm between Monroe and Genoa. Virg attended District #6 Grade School and graduated from Genoa High School in 1959. He then went to Universal Trades School in Omaha for automobile mechanics. On May 18, 1963 Virg married Betty Jasper at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Platte Center. The couple lived in Monroe for a short time before moving to Platte Center and establishing Virg's Garage in 1964 which he operated until retiring in 2008. Virg was a member of the Platte Center Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years where he served as Fire Chief for a majority of that time. He served several terms on the Town Board and was Chairman of the Board for 12 years. Virg was a member of the Civil Defense and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Virg enjoyed going to coffee each morning, demolition derbies, the annual 4th of July celebration and volunteering at fish fry's. His daily drives around town will be missed.

Grandsons: Hunter Pilakowski, Eli Pilakowski and Milo Pilakowski
Daughter: Sara (Jamie) Eickmeier of Bellwood, NE
Grandsons: Riley Eickmeier and Brady Eickmeier
Granddaughter: Molly Eickmeier
