Vernon died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Prairie Village Retirement Center in Columbus.
Vernon Dale Peterson was born September 11, 1921 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Walter and Lulu (Benson) Peterson. His family moved to Silver Creek when he was 12 and he graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1939. Vernon served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII from August 4, 1942 - November 28, 1945. On September 5, 1948 he was united in marriage to Phyllis B. Huston in Central City, Nebraska. Vernon farmed in the Silver Creek area for 60 years. In 2006 he moved to the Prairie Village Retirement Center in Columbus. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #263, School Board, R.E.A. Board, Elevator Board and the A.S.C. Committee.
