Vernon Van Dyke, 78, of Columbus died Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral services are 10:00 am Saturday, April 30 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation is on Friday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7 pm, also at the funeral home. Visitation continues on Saturday from 8-9:30 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery in rural Platte Center. Memorials are suggested to the donors choice.

Vernon Bernard Van Dyke was born September 30, 1926 in Lindsay, NE to Tom and Elizabeth (Eckholt) Van Dyke. He was raised in the St. Bernard area where he attended schools. He married LaVerna Wiese on April 24, 1951 in Lindsay. Vernon farmed in the Lindsay and Humphrey area until 1956 when he moved to Platte Center before moving to Columbus in 1966. He worked at Irrigation Pump for 9 years then worked for Tran-Tec Corporation for 16 years. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church where he served as an usher, the Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, and raising poultry.
