Verl J. Haynes, 73, of Schuyler died Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the Schuyler Nursing Center. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday; September 4, 2004 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. The Rev. Andrew Alberts will officiate. Visitation will be an hour before the service on Saturday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, also at the church
Verl Joseph Haynes was born June 14, 1931 in Parmalee, SD to John Raymond & Katherine (Suverkrubbe) Haynes. He was raised in Knox County and Valentine area. Verl attended schools in the Creighton area. He married Rosella M. Schleich on September 17, 1950 in Creighton. He worked various jobs in farming, owned a salvage yard in the Fullerton area for 14 years, and was involved in bridge construction for 7 years until he retired in 1987. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus and belonged to AA for 44 years. Verl enjoyed outdoor sports, fishing and stock car racing. He was a member of the Fullerton Volunteer Fire Department and was a past recipient of the Service to Mankind Award awarded by the Columbus Sertoma Club. Verl enjoyed being involved with his family and friends, and getting to know others.
