Velma Corine Scriven, age 88 of Columbus died Monday; September 6, 2004 at Mory's Haven in Columbus. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday; September 10, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bill Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday 5-8 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home and Friday 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Velma Corine Scriven was born April 13, 1916 in Genoa, Nebraska to Truman and Amelia (Lindberg) Iiams. She grew up in Genoa where she graduated from Genoa High School in 1933. She married Edwin J. Scriven on October 19, 1939 in Torrington, Wyoming. Along with raising her family Velma cooked for several years at the Genoa High School and at the Runner Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming. She also worked at Dale Electronics for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. She volunteered at the hospital as a Gray Lady, was active in the Senior Citizens, past member of the Eagles Club and served as the local AARP secretary. Velma enjoyed camping, cooking and spending time with her family.

Son Edwin (Norma) Scriven of Columbus, NE
Daughter Evelyn (Ron) Finch of Minden, NV
Sister Jane Fugh of Lincoln, NE
Sister Phyllis Lund of Rockford, IL
Sister Jacqueline Gordon of California

4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren
