Valma Janicek, age 82, of Columbus died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at her home in Columbus.
Valma Theresa Janicek was born August 30, 1930 in Platte Center, Nebraska to Henry and Gunda (Melcher) Pillen. She grew up on the family farm in Platte Center. She graduated from Platte Center High School. On September 27, 1951 she married Melvin Janicek. Along with raising her family she worked at Consumer Public Power for 5 years and Aquinas High School for 17 years. From 1965-1970, they owned the Western Drive Inn in David City. Valma was a 45 year Northside Extension Club Member. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and past president of the St. Mary Catholic Church PCCW in David City. She was a member of the Bridge Club, Rosary Club, Bible Study and Aquinas High School Booster Club. Memorials are suggested to St. Bonaventure Church or Aquinas High School.

She was preceded in death by brothers: Vernon, Eugene, Dale, Lester and Art Pillen, sister: Flora Mae Zach and twin sister in infancy: Thelma.
