Ursula &Quot;Suzie&Quot; Sleddens

May 27, 1934 — November 10, 2018

Ursula "Suzie" Sleddens, age 84, was called to heaven on November 10, 2018 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus, Nebraska.

Ursula Maria Sleddens (Koester) was born on May 28, 1934 in Beuthen, Germany to Paul and Broni (Pryzibilla) Koester. Her family evacuated Beuthen in January of 1945 in advance of the Russian forces, and relocated to Wiesbaden in western Germany. After completing her education she immigrated to the United States in 1957. She subscribed to the Omaha World Herald to improve her English and found early work as a waitress. It was here she acquired her American nickname, Suzie, and met William Sleddens whom she married on December 31, 1958 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. They eventually settled in a close-knit neighborhood on Becton Street and had two children, Chris and Steve. Suzie continued to waitress at various restaurants and worked at Becton-Dickinson until her retirement.

Known to her siblings as Ushi and to her grandchildren as Oma, she enjoyed spending time and conversing with family. Friends and family alike will remember her for her toughness and quick wit, but also for the love which was under the surface---especially when they wrap up in one of her crocheted afghans, eat a bowl of homemade pudding, or go out of their way to buy good bread.

She is survived by her daughter Chris (Tom) Goc of Columbus, son Steve Sleddens of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren Colton Goc and Rogan Goc of Columbus, Cassidy (Scott) Wessel of Bloomfield, Gabby (Ethan Cochrane) Goc of Lincoln; great-grandchildren Autumn Wessel and Jase Gerdes; her sisters Christine Seiss and Elizabeth Nicolai of Germany and Margaret "Gretel" (Bill) Gaunt of California; her brothers-in-law Albert (Betty) Sleddens of York, Larry (Frances) Sleddens of Columbus and David Sleddens of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law Betty (Herman) Schumacher of Platte Center, Patty (Dave) Vanek of Hood River, OR, and Stella Sleddens of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Sleddens, siblings Georg (Elizabeth) Koester, Ruth (Friedel) Schaefer, Hildegard "Hilda" (Leonard) Manuszak and Heidel (Jim) Wallin; and in-laws Kurt Seiss, Hans Nicolai, Pete Sleddens, Jacob and Joan Sleddens, and John and Joan Sleddens, Marie and Myron Johnson and Sr. Alma Sleddens
