Tony Walter Turner was born July 15, 1947 to Walter and Mazel Marie (Triplett) Turner at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, North Carolina. Tony spent his younger years growing up in the Cajah Mountain Road area. He loved playing with his two sisters or fishing with his grandpa Triplett. He passed away in his sleep Saturday morning, June 17, 2023, at Arbor Care – Countryside home in Madison following a lengthy illness.

In 1965, Tony enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. He served aboard the USS Hoel a missile launching ship and was stationed for a year off the coast of Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968. He returned home to Lenoir and enrolled in a trade school to learn how to cut meat. Part of his training was completed at Lowes Supermarket in Lenoir. He met Susan Kay Miller from Ong, Nebraska and they got married April 15, 1969, at Clarks Chapel Baptist Church in Hudson, North Carolina. To this union, the couple's two sons, David of Omaha, and Bradley of Bennington, were born. Tony loved attending country music shows and dances in Charlotte. The family was often found camping and fishing in the Blue Ridge Mountains or at Myrtle Beach. Tony also became a part time mail carrier.

In 1979, Tony traveled to Genoa, Nebraska and he bought the City Meat Market. Him and his wife operated it for two years. He then began working for various grocery stores in Columbus. He eventually went to work for Food 4 Less. They had several name changes and eventually it became Super Saver, and he became meat manager. He cut meat for 48 years. After he retired from Super Saver, boredom followed, and he began driving to Didiers in Schuyler. He worked four more years, until his health forced him to retire.

Tony was an avid bowler and belonged to several leagues. He was even employed part time at the Genoa Bowling Alley. He coached Little League Baseball and always helped the boys with their scout projects. He joined the Genoa Chamber of Commerce and served two years as the president. He was also active in the Genoa JayCees and the Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing wherever and whenever he found the time. Tony was a workaholic, but he managed to do anything and be at events that involved his sons.

One day on his way to work, Tony came across a car wreck. A young lady was trapped in her car and it caught on fire. He ran through muddy water to pull the young lady to safety. He didn't think twice, he just did what needed to be done. For his Heroic actions that day, Tony was awarded a medal and named an Honorary Admiral of the Nebraska Navy.
Everyone who knew Tony, knew he spoke what was on his mind and didn't care who heard him. He left this world with no regrets.
