Thomas George Zuroski, age 92, of Columbus died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at Mory's Haven in Columbus. Funeral Services are 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation is 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with an 8:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Wednesday from 11:00 -12:30 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Thomas George Zuroski was born November 27, 1914 in Columbus, Nebraska to Joseph and Alice (Koziol) Zuroski. He received his education from District #9 and District #4. He married Wanda Y. Henry on June 9, 1948 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, Nebraska. He served on active duty in the National Guard from December 23, 1940 to December 8, 1941. Tom was transferred to active duty in the U.S. Army on February 14, 1942 to November 6, 1945. He was a Sgt. in the Military Police stationed in Northern France in the 263rd Infantry. He received the following decorations, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal-Northern France, American Defense Service Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. After the war, Tom worked at Columbus Pump, Roelle Sheet Metal and lastly at Gerhold Central Sand and Gravel for 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. He joined the Knights of Columbus #938 on March 1, 1982 where he was 3rd Degree. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Isidore, American Legion Post #84-life member, V.F.W. Post #3704-life member, D.A.V. Pawnee Post #20- life member and the Eagles Club.
