Thomas Glen Hayes was born August 20, 1952, in Pasco, Washington to Glen and Mary Lou (Rodgers) Hayes. When he was 5, they moved back to Decatur, Nebraska where he attended school through the 2nd grade. Tom then attended Busse Country School where his Aunt Mary Jane Hayes taught. He then returned to Decatur, where he graduated high school in 1971.
He met his future wife, Rose Ann Stafford, in kindergarten. The two were united in marriage in September of 1971. To this union, their three children were born: Blaine Thomas in 1977, Brooke Jarman in 1980, and Brante Leo in 1983.
Tom began his career with the Nebraska State Patrol in 1977. He was stationed in David City. While in the NSP, he served as a Trooper, a member of the Governor's Security Detail, SWAT and as an undercover drug investigator for RAP. After his retirement from NSP, he went back to work as an undercover investigator for Fillmore County. Tom was also a volunteer fireman, serving as president. He also served as a member of the David City Public School Board, and a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Most of all, Tom loved his family. He was always attending his children and grandchildren's activities, with PLENTY of Twizzlers to share. Whether it was sports or fine arts, rain or shine, he was sure to be there, proudly cheering them on. Win or lose, it didn't matter. It was all about his family. Each child and grandchild had a special place in his heart. Tom also enjoyed riding his Harley, but his most treasured rides were those with Nichole and Brante.
