Ted Niedbalski, age 85, of Kearney NE formerly of Columbus NE, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at his home, Brookdale Retirement Village
Ted was born on July 22, 1933 near Duncan, NE to James and Barbara (Liss) Niedbalski. He lived in Platte Center NE until the early 1940s when his family moved to Columbus NE. He was educated in Platte Center and Columbus, graduating from St. Bonaventure High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1952 to July 1956. In May 1977, he earned an Associate Degree in Business from Platte Community College.
On April 25, 1953 he married Marlene Hanak at St. Mary Church, Stockton CA. They celebrated their 65th Anniversary in April, 2018. Ted was employed as a Purchasing Agent, Kosch Mfg. Co.; Personnel Manager, Middle State Mfg. Co.; owned and operated a Standard Oil Service Station; owned and operated the Ski Lounge in partnership with his brother, Floyd; and was a sales representative with United Distillers Company of Omaha. He retired in September, 1998.
Ted was a member of St. Anthony Church, Knights of Columbus Council #9264, VFW, American Legion and the Eagles. Ted especially enjoyed his family and traveling with dear friends. He loved to golf and was instrumental in the founding and organizing of the Polish Invitational Golf Tournament which will celebrate its 50th year in 2019. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and watching Scotus and Husker sporting events.
Surviving relatives include his wife,Marlene, and children Susan (Edwin) Odom, Moscow ID; Steve (Kathy) Niedbalski, Kearney NE; Cindy (Matt) Johnston,CO; and Jane (Scott) Foutch, Kearney NE; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, sisters: Josephine Kielian, Medford OR; Dorothy Spies, Columbus NE; and Barbara Incontro, Omaha NE, brother Walter (Joyce) Niedbalski, Columbus NE and sisters-in-law Myrtle Niedbalski, Bellevue NE; and Elaine Campbell, Oshkosh NE.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon Niedbalski Johnson, grandson James Foutch, great-grandson Damien Clark, sister Emily Tiwald, brothers Louis, Floyd, Dominic, Ben, Leo, Edward, and Stanley.
