Theodore L. Krzycki was born July 16, 1923 in Platte County, Nebraska to Charles and Valeria (Cuba) Krzycki. He grew up farming with his father near Genoa, Nebraska where he developed the ability to fix anything. He married Dorothy "Dottie" Drozd on August 22, 1950 at St. Rose Of Lima Church in Genoa. During World War II He worked in Seattle, WA for Boeing Aircraft building B-24 bombers. He later owned a shoe repair business in Genoa, NE. He started in the upholstery business in Grand Island, continued in Ogallala, and owned Ted Krzycki Upholstery in Columbus and also worked for Columbus Upholstery and Greiner Upholstery. He and his wife Dottie owned the Avenue Bar in Humphrey, Nebraska.
Ted was a person of many talents, among them was carving custom made gun stocks, which took top awards at several shows. Early in his life he worked at tooling leather. His projects included three hand-made saddles, numerous belts, handbags, and tables. His most memorable commission was a hand-tooled leather fly rod case for President Eisenhower.
His most notable achievement, however, was his woodcarving. His talent was a God-given gift. When he was nearing his retirement almost 22 years ago, he made a wood clock for each of his five sons. He later became interested in carving wildlife and his life-like creations took numerous awards at shows throughout the Midwest. He also competed at a world-class level, taking second place with two of his works. He was commissioned by several people to do special jobs, but perhaps the most visible one is the corpus of Christ on the cross which hangs from the ceiling of St. Anthonys church in Columbus. For this project he donated all his time. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an expert marksman and brought home top prizes from many blue rock shoots. Ted enjoyed socializing with the guys over morning coffee. His wit and good humor will be missed by friends and family. Ted was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus.
