Sylvia D. Want passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Cottonwood Place in Columbus, Nebraska.

Funeral services are 10:30 am Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. Visitation is on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at McKown Funeral Home and continues on Thursday from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Interment is in Columbus Cemetery 

She was born on July 16, 1933, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Allen Paul Eggert and Helene N. Eggert (Blacketer). Sylvia was the second oldest of five children and the only girl, a role that shaped her strong, steady, and nurturing nature from an early age. She graduated from Rising City High School in Rising City, Nebraska.

She married Melvin Frederick Want on July 2, 1951. Sylvia and Melvin made their home in Columbus, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Sylvia spent many years working as an in-home seamstress, providing skilled and dependable service to countless families in the community. She was a devoted homemaker, a talented seamstress, a daycare provider, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and an Al Anon member.

She was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for 30 years and participated in the Quilting Club, Prayer Shawl ministry, and funeral lunch committee. Her faith and service touched many lives.

Sylvia is survived by her children: David (Debra) Want of Lincoln, NE; Dianne (Rob) Korgie of Columbus, NE; Debra Jean (Doug) Stutzman of Reno, NV; Douglas (Peggy) Want of Riverton, WY; Donna (Ken) Anderson of Columbus, NE; Denise Myers of Columbus, NE; Daniel Want of Lincoln, NE; Duane Want of Lincoln, NE.

She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren: Tracy Want, Jasmine Heimgartner, Carrie Korgie, Jenny Sutton, Katie Liebig, Robert Korgie, Terry Want, Misty Hassenstab, Cody Flanagan, Jacob Anderson, Justin Wright, James Wright, and Jon Wright, as well as 20 great grandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous joy.

Her brother Jack Eggert of Pennsylvania; Sister in law Deb Prestage Eggert of Omaha, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; and her brothers Allen Eggert, Bill Eggert, and Steve Eggert.

Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all whose lives she touched.
