Sylvia Hruska

Sylvia Hruska, 93, of Columbus died Monday, August 6, 2007 at her home in the Golden Living Community. Memorial services are 10:30 am Friday at the Federated Church (2704 15th Street) in Columbus. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm Thursday at McKown Funeral Home and again from 9:30 until 10:15 am Friday at the Federated Church. Inurnment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Sylvia Hruska was born July 20, 1914 in Stanton County, Nebraska to Joseph and Elizabeth (Mastny) Rayman. She grew up on a farm by Leigh where she attended country schools. She moved to Omaha where she attended Omaha South High School for 3 1/2 years before moving to Schuyler where she graduated from Schuyler High School.

Sylvia married John V. Hruska on January 29, 1934 in Schuyler. They lived on a farm north of Schuyler where she learned to square dance. Sylvia was a homemaker that enjoyed flowers, making kolaches and apple strudel, and sewing lots of quilts. After her husband passed away in 1976 she began working for her daughter and son-in-law at Gloor Bakery. She enjoyed belonging to church circle, AARP, and also enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Sylvia was a member of the Federated Church for over 50 years.

Sister Dorothy (Marvin) Elston of Columbus, NE

Brother Joe (Shirley) Rayman of Columbus, NE

Sister-in-law Lois Rayman of Longmount, CO
