Susan Lovci

August 28, 1938 — February 24, 2009

Susan Beth Hollingworth Lovci, age 70, died at Morys Haven, in Columbus, Nebraska on Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 following years of declining health after a stroke in 2004.

She was born August 29th, 1938, in Los Angeles, California to the late Walter & Dora (Druce) Hollingworth and raised in Sherman Oaks, California with older sister Ruth. She graduated in 1956 from Van Nuys High School, attended UCLA where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and graduated from University of Nevada-Reno with a Degree in Education. There she worked as an elementary school teacher.

Years later she attended the University of Nebraska-Kearney and in 1990 recieved her Masters in Business Administration. She owned and managed residential property, was the owner of a bed and breakfast, and held real estate licenses in the state of Nebraska and Florida.

She was married twice, first to James Bottorff in Nevada, divorced, then Robert Paul Lovci and widowed in 1991.

In 1972, Susan and Robert moved to Columbus, Nebraska and became active in the community, public schools and Boy Scouts. In 1975 they became members of the Federated Church. In 1981 Susan was elected to the first of several terms on the Columbus Public School Board. She was an outspoken advocate for music progams and education.

As an accomplished violist herself, she played with many regional ensembles including; Platte County Playhouse, Central Community (Platte) College, Hastings Civic Symphony and the Lincoln Symphony. She also toured Europe two summers with the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra of Port Angeles, Washington.

Susan moved to Florida in 1996 where she practiced real estate, was an active member of the Fort Walton Sail & Power Squadron and the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. She was also a member of SERVAS, an international travel and cultural exchange organization. She enjoyed travel, mission work, biking, boating and tennis.

In 2004 following her stroke, she returned to Columbus to be near her family and the caring community.

Susan is survived by her children, David, Chris and his wife Kelly, Debbie, Kelly and her husband Steven Borchers, Marc and his wife Mary and Steven and his wife Shlomit Arubas; grandchildren Molly, Tryggve and Dane Borchers, Isobel and Austin Lovci, Jenni Svehla, Stephanie Nyffeler, Sam and Emilie Prien, Codie, Madison and Megan Lovci, Jacqueline and Olivia Lovci. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Glendora Lovci, nieces Holly Rasey, Heather Parks and Kerry Guizzo and their families. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her sister Ruth Croft and brother-in-law John (Jack) Lovci.

Funeral Services for Susan H. Lovci will be held at 10:30am Monday March 2, 2009 at The Federated Church, 2704 15th Street, Columbus, NE. Burial service will proceed at the Columbus Cemetery. A lunch reception will follow at the church. Relatives and friends are also welcome for visitation Sunday, March 1, 2009 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the McKown Funeral Home, 2922 13th Street Columbus, NE.
