Steven W. Szatko, age 81, of Grand Island, Nebraska died Friday April 12, 2002 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday April 16, 2002 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks, Nebraska with Reverend Don Cleary officiating. Burial will be in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery - Krakow, rural Genoa, Nebraska. Visitation will begin after 5:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Peter's Church in Clarks. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until service time also at the church.
Steven W. Szatko was born April 6, 1921 in Greeley County, Nebraska to James & Victoria (Gembica) Szatko. He attended school at Krakow while living at the dormitory. Following school he returned to the family farm in Greeley County. Steve served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees during WWII. He then returned to the Fullerton area where he owned and operated a garage. On June 3, 1947 Steve was united in marriage to Rose Nowak. He farmed in the Fullerton & Silver Creek areas until 1956 when he moved to Omaha, Nebraska. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic until 1986 when he retired and returned to the Clarks area. In 1994 Steve moved to Grand Island.
