Steven F. Smith, age 59, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at his home. Funeral Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006 at St. Anthony Church in Columbus with Reverend Del Lape officiating. Visitation is 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Saturday morning from 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial is in the Ss Peter & Mary Cemetery - rural Bellwood with military honors by the Bellwood American Legion #327.
Steven Smith was born June 6, 1947in Columbus, Nebraska to Francis and Delvina (Hill) Smith. He received his early education in Bellwood and graduated from David City High School in 1966. He was in the United States Army from 1968-1970 and served in Vietnam. He returned to the Columbus area where he apprenticed as a plumber. He then worked at Behlen Mfg. and Appleton. Steve continued working as self employed plumber throughout the years. He has been employed at Central Community College-Platte Campus since 2000. Steve married Cathy Jacot-Vesley on January 7, 2006. He was a member of St. Anthony Church. Steve was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He was e member of the Bellwood American Legion Post# 327, Disabled American Veterans, and VFW Post #3704 in Columbus.
