Stephen Hendricks, age 67, of Columbus, died Wednesday, June 2, 2021 as the result of a motorcycle accident in Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM Friday, June 11, 2021, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus, NE. Visitation is Thursday, June 10, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM vigil service all at the church. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the church from 9:30 AM until the service time. Burial is in St. Joseph/St. Patrick Cemetery in Platte Center, NE.
Stephen Evert Hendricks was born on December 15, 1953, in Hawarden, IA to Fay Joseph and Mildred Elaine (Millage) Hendricks. He grew up in the Alcester, SD area, and as a child enjoyed trapping, raising livestock, and tinkering with gadgets. Steve attended grade school at Brilliant Hill School in Alcester, graduated in 1972 from Alcester High School, and in 1976 from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD with a B.A. in Mechanical Engineering. On May 16, 1975, he married Lisa Sogn at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, SD.
After graduating college, he worked for US Gypsum Company in Watonga, OK where his first daughter Stephanie was born in 1978. In 1979 he and his family moved to Columbus, NE so he could begin employment with Dale Electronics, which later became Vishay Inc, as a mechanical engineer, and retired after 40 years of service as Senior Product Marketing Manager. Second daughter Andrea was born in 1983.
Steve enjoyed farming, auto racing, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, cooking, gardening, canning, and baking bread, and later completely restored his grandfather's house. Steve could fix anything and was a great mentor to his children, nieces, and nephews. He was a devout Catholic attending St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus, NE, and member of the Knights of Columbus, adventurous, patriotic, and generous to those in need.
