Shirley Zegar, age 79, of Columbus, died Friday, December 16, 2011 at Mory's Haven in Columbus.
Shirley Ann Zegar was born May 2, 1932 in Columbus, Nebraska to Edward and Esther (Engel) Gerber. She was raised in Platte County and attended District 43 grade school before graduating from Duncan High School in 1950. She married Virgil Zegar on August 29, 1950 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Clarks. Shirley was a farmer's wife in the Clarks and Silver Creek areas and worked at Becton Dickenson for over 23 years. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek before moving to Columbus in 1999 where she joined St. Isidore Catholic Church. Shirley's biggest passion was cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She read and collected cookbooks and along with Virgil, loved to play cards and dance to polka music. She will be remembered for her work ethic, positive attitude, sense of humor and for being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
