Shirley Fleming, age 81, of Columbus, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Edgewood Vista in Columbus.
Shirley was born September 10, 1933 in Plainview, Nebraska to Oscar and Margie (Ober) Wilson. Shirley was always known to be a very busy person. In high school she was a member of the pep club, glee club, student council as well as working at the Palace of Sweets and the creamery. She was confirmed at the Methodist Church in Bloomfield where she was a member. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Shirley had many different occupations and lived many places during her married life, among them where Bloomfield, Hampton, Iowa, Red Cloud, NE and Smith Center, KS, her favorite place being Smith Center. Along the way she made many special, lifelong friends. She worked for the Smith County Hospital for many years. She enjoyed ambulance transfers, hospice work as well as working directly with the patients. Shirley has many hobbies including reading, golfing, bowling, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She was always up for a game of Kings Korner, Yahtzee or watching Wheel of Fortune. Her grandchildren will remember her for her quilting, making chocolate chip cookies, apple butter and her huge collection of elephants. The last months of her life where spent at Edgewood Vista in Columbus.
