Shirley M. Dixon was born October 28, 1926 in Belvidere, Illinois to Leon and Lillian (Britton) Graham. She grew up and received her education in Belvidere. She married H. Elwood Martenson on January 20, 1945. The farmed in Belvidere. In 1945 she contracted bulbar polio. Folowing a long rehabilitaion, she was busy raising her family. She married Harold Berkheimer on February 18, 1956. They lived in Durand, Illionos where they were involved in farming. In 1958 she returned to Belvidere. In 1961 she moved to Omaha and later to Carter Lake, Iowa. Harold passed away December 26, 1964. After Harold's death she remained in Omaha. Shirley maried Bill Dixon on June 16, 1973. They lived in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Bill passed away 1 years after their marriage. Shirley returned to Belvidere to take care of her mother and brother. She also worked at the hospital. In 1990 she moved to Columbus. She helped the elderly in their home and helped several area families with their homes. She enjoyed cross stitching, reading and spending time her grandchildren.
