Shirlee Zaura, 96 of Columbus, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Meridian Gardens/ Memory Support in Columbus, Nebraska.
Services 10:30 a.m. Monday October 2, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, Visitation is Sunday 3-5 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday morning 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
Shirlee Maxine, daughter of Edward & Alma (Studts) Schwank, was born May
16th, 1927 on a farm west of Madison, NE. Shirlee, the youngest of five
children, attended rural grade school and graduated from Madison High
School in 1946. After graduation, Shirlee worked as a bookkeeper in Madison
at J.M. McDonalds for 4 years. She married Kasimer Zaura, also of Madison, on
November 15th, 1953 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Nebraska. They
were blessed with two sons: Jan Allen in 1955 and Steven Paul in 1963.
Kasimer passed away on August 31st, 2017.
Shirlee is survived by:
Son: Jan of Columbus, NE and her only grandchild, Madelyn.
'Son: Steve (Jodi) of Columbus, NE
Nephew: Don Dittberner
Nieces: Joan Buresh, Sharon Leffers & Mary Millman
She is preceded in death by:
Husband and parents
Siblings Arletta Dittberner, Marie Duby, Bud Schwank, and Jean Schwank
In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be made to Eden Comfort Dog Ministry , c/o Peace Lutheran Church, 2720 28™ Street, Columbus, NE 68601.In lieu of thanking each individual, Shirlee's family will instead use the means to say "thank you" and the money saved will also be donated to the Comfort Dog Ministry. Eden is a trained LCC K-9 Comfort Dog, serving every day in the community in which she is placed and is deployed in times of disaster and crisis. Eden brings a calming influence and allows people to open up their hearts and receive help for what is affecting them.
