Selma S. "Sally" Schmit, age 88, formerly of Bellwood, died Saturday, March 23, 2019 at David Place in David City.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic in Bellwood. Visitation is on Wednesday from 5-7 pm at St. Peter's Church with a Vigil service to follow at 7:00 pm. Visitation continues on Thursday from 9:30 am until service time. Interment is in Ss. Peter and Mary's/Presentation Cemetery.
Selma Schmit was born July 25, 1930 in Shelby, NE to Fred and Sophie (Dobesh) Polacek. She attended Cottonwood School near Surprise and graduated from David City High School in 1946. Selma took normal training to be a teacher. She taught school at 3 different country schools in Butler County for over a period of 5 years. Selma married Dwaine Schmit on March 29, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. Selma was a farmwife raising their seven children. She loved gardening, quilting, and traveling. They retired to Meridian Gardens in Columbus in 2016
Selma was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Joseph's Altar Society, local Extension Club, Mother of Twins Club, and Friendship Star Quilt Club. Selma was a 4-H leader and a member of the Platte Valley Cattlewomen Auxiliary. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren
