Scott Wyatt Wemhoff

Scott Wyatt Wemhoff, 46, of Columbus, died Friday, December 6, 2019 in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation Tuesday 5-7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service at the church.  Visitation continues Wednesday 9:30 until service time all at the church.

Scott Wyatt Wemhoff was born at St.Mary's Catholic Hospital in Columbus, NE to Gloria (Tichota) and Carrol Wemhoff on October 12, 1973. Scott grew up in Columbus, living at home with his seven brothers and sisters. He attended grade school at Fairacres Elementary school in Columbus, Nebraska and attended Columbus High School where he graduated in 1995. In 1997 he moved to the Utica Community Care Center in Utica, NE where he resided until 2018 when he moved back to Columbus, NE to be closer to family. Scott was born with hydrocephalus and experienced multiple surgeries during his first few years of life. He survived a life-threatening meningitis infection that left him with severe neurological damage. He received treatment from the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis, MN beginning in grade school, restoring some of his musculoskeletal function. Through high school and following graduation Scott worked at Region IV in Columbus where he enjoyed crushing cans. Scott competed and medaled in bowling in the Special Olympics.

His favorite past times were tearing paper or playing cards. He especially loved to beat his Great Aunt Millie at the game of war. Scott was a fan of Curious George, Godfather's pizza, Root Beer, Austin City Limits and country music. He had a fantastic sense of humor and was known to tease his nurses every now and then. His smile was infectious. He loved to love and he loved to laugh. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Scott is survived by his dad, Carrol Wemhoff; seven siblings; Theresa Steckel (Bob) of Edmond, OK; Wayne of Columbus, NE; Lisa Dohring of Franklin, TN; Rhea Berglund (Kelly) of Austin, Texas; Amy Linder (Dan) of Corpus Christi, TX; Jeff (Heather) of Kearney, NE; and Sandra of Omaha, NE; 16 nieces and nephews, Tayla, Logan, Karson, Delaney, Maximilian, Lily, Lydia, Rollie, Rylan, Elias, Bela, Madalyn, Aubrey, Drexler, Lucas and Sebastian.

Scott is preceded in death by his mom, Gloria Wemhoff; grandparents; Ruth and Bo Tichota; Rose and Leonard Wemhoff; a nephew Wyatt Jackson Linder; and his Great Aunt Millie.

In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis, MN.
