Sandra "Sandy" Williams, age 82, of Columbus, died Saturday, September 3, 2016 in Columbus.
Sandra Jean Sandy (Mitera) Williams was born January 24, 1934, to James Mitera and Nina (Roberts) Mitera in Columbus.
She attended District 9 Grade School, East of town where four generations of the family attended. She graduated St. Bonaventure High School in 1951. On August 29, 1951, she married Robert Dean Williams in Lincoln, Nebraska. During Bobs Navy career of 27 years, they lived in Lincoln, Nebraska; Norfolk, Virginia; and San Diego, California. After her husbands retirement they returned to Columbus.
Sandy was an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary, serving as President in 1978-79; Top 529 Club as area Captain for Platte County; Catholic Daughters of America as Regent 1983-85; American Legion Lifetime Member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Sandy and Bob moved to Corsicana, Texas in 1996, where they were active members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and Auxiliary. While living there, Sandy organized the first Tops Club in Corsicana.
Following Bobs death in 2003, Sandy returned to Columbus and resided at Crown Villa Apartments where she made many friends. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed crocheting, painting, and playing card games and Mexican Train Dominos with friends.
Surviving Sandy are her children: David Williams, Deborah (Dale) Hayes, Michael (Joan) Williams, Margaret "Peg" Janney, Steven (Denise) Williams, sister, Barbara (John) Woerth, Columbus NE; and brother, James C (Mary) Mitera, Hastings NE. 12 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, sister, Yvonne Woods, and granddaughter, April Williams.
