Ruth died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Ruth J. Long was born July 29, 1925 in Forest Hill, Maryland to Archie C. and Esther (Volk) Young. She was raised in Madison County, Nebraska and graduated from Madison High School in 1942. Ruth married Vernon Long on June 1, 1945 at the United Methodist Church in Norfolk, Nebraska. They moved to Columbus in 1948. Ruth worked for General Telephone company for 28 years. Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist Women's Circle, Garden Club, Keystone Club and the Leaf Petal Club. She was an artist and a volunteer Cub Scout leader. Ruth loved painting, gardening, and traveling.
