Rudolph W. "Rudy" Brunkhorst, age 72, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at the Columbus Community Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2006 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Visitation is 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Friday morning from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Rudy Brunkhorst was born September 29, 1933 in Polk County, Nebraska to Herman and Margaret (Braasch) Brunkhorst. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1950. After graduation he farmed for 3 years with his mother. He served two years in the Korean War. Rudy attended Kansas State and the University of Nebraska. In 1957 he married Rosemary Irwin. He worked for many years at the Columbus Veterinarian Hospital. He and his wife owned and operated Brunk's Animal Health for 25 years. During that time he was also a Pioneer Seed salesman for many years. After retirement he worked part time at Lextron Animal Health which he enjoyed very much. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the American Legion Hartman Post #84. He received many awards throughout the years including Fan of the Year in 2002 from the Columbus High Booster Club. He enjoyed polka music, Atlanta Braves baseball and most of all his family, grandchildren and great grandson.

He is lovingly survived by his wife Rosemary of Columbus, daughter Tammy Augustine of Omaha, son Doug (Bev) Brunkhorst of Columbus, daughter Terri (Rick) Hansen of Columbus, son Bruce Brunkhorst of San Diego, California; five grandchildren: Taylor Augustine, Rudy (Jennifer) Brunkhorst, Ashley Brunkhorst, Maddie Carlson, Jessy Hansen; 1 great grandson: Rudy Brunkhorst. 2 brothers: Clarence (Mary Lou) Brunkhorst of Kearney, Herman (Lora) Brunkhorst of Fullerton, California, many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Marie and Frieda, brother: John, and grandson: A.J. Carlson
