Rose Catherine Kurtenbach, 97, of Columbus died Friday, August 15, 2003 at Countryside Home in Madison. Services are 10:30 am Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation is on Monday from 4-8 pm at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. There will be a Rosary at 4:00 pm and a Vigil service at 7:00 pm Monday, also at the church. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Rose Catherine Kurtenbach was born January 15, 1906 in St. Bernard, Nebraska to Michael and Gertrude (Cremer) Schaefer. She grew up there and on October 26, 1926 she married Anthony Kurtenbach in St. Bernard. Rose raised her family and worked as a housekeeper at various places. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Franciscan Missionary Union and the St. Bonaventure Ladies Guild. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and flowers.
She is survived by her children; Maynard (Margie) Kurtenbach of Omaha, Jean (Al) Beiermann, Joan (Ed) Heimann, Alvin (Elaine) Kurtenbach, and Kathy (Gerry) Engelbert, all of Columbus; 24 Grandchildren, 61 Great-Grandchildren, and 8 Great-Great Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a great-grandson Christopher Graham, 2 great-granddaughters Jill Kurtenbach and Angie Beiermann, 8 brothers; Chris, Matt, Frank, Bill, Ben, Joe, Nick, and Ted and 7 sisters: Isabelle, Susan, Josephine, Gertie, Lizzie, Clara, and Mary.
