With no formal training she immediately went to work at St. Mary Hospital in Columbus, NE. Later she worked at Boone County Hospital in Albion, Ne. when it was built. On April 26, 1954 she married Paul Braun at St. Michael Church in Albion, NE. To this union were born John, Kathleen, and Eileen.

In 1956 they were forced by extreme drought to leave the farm, and move to Denver, CO. where Rose worked at Denver General Hospital. In 1960 they moved to Columbus, NE where she worked at St. Mary Hospital, later Behlen Hospital and the Columbus Hospital.

Paul and Rose loved to travel; they visited all the States and Puerto Rico. In 1978 they traveled to seven countries in Europe meeting their son John in Rome, where he was stationed with the Navy. By chance, they were in Rome when Pope John Paul the first died. They saw his body and preparations for his funeral.

She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), serving many years as the state Alzheimer's chairman, over-seeing 15 statewide chapters in raising money for Alzheimer research. Nation-wide NARFE has raised over 9 million for Alzheimer's research. She also served as district representative for NARFE. She was an active member of the Navy Mothers. She was well known for her embroidery, spending many hours making tea towels for the church. She was also a member of St. Isidore Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them fishing, boating and swimming at their cabin. She and her husband also took them to Hawaii and Alaska.

In retirement Rose volunteered at the church, hospital, the VFW and the American Legion.
