Roman Sock, age 72, of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Saturday February 1, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek with Reverend Dave Korth officiating. Burial is in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Silver Creek. Visitation is after 5:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Lawrence Church. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. - service time also at the church.

Roman Sock was born May 7, 1930 in Nance County to Philip & Helen (Jarecki) Sock. He grew up in Polk and Merrick counties and attended District #23 and District #40 schools. Roman worked construction before entering the US Army from January 1951 until Dec 1952 during the Korean Conflict, serving in Korea. He returned home where he starting farming. In 1956 he started a land leveling business, but continued to farm and feed cattle. In 1968 he purchased Havens Elevator and operated it until 1975. He continued farming until 1985 when he entered the horse racing business which he was a part of until August of 2002. He enjoyed fishing and reading. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, American Legion Post #263, and the Horse Racing Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister: Elizabeth and 1 brother: James
