Rodney, R. Furby, age 54 of Spanaway, Washington, formerly of Platte Center, died March 1st, 2012 at his home of a heart attack.
Rodney Ralph Furby was born April 25, 1957 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Ralph Bud and Evelyn (Cyza) Furby. In 1959 he moved with his family to Platte Center where he attended St. Joseph Parochial School. He was a graduate of Lakeview High School. In 1975 Rodney joined the U.S. Army. He served twenty years with duties in the United States, Germany and South Korea. He received an honorable discharge as Sgt. 1st Class in 1995.
He married Yun Jung Hui in 1977 in Osan, Korea. Before returning to the United States he was chief financial management officer at Camp Red Cloud 8th Army Base in Korea. Upon returning to the U.S. he was manager of the Ft. Hood Officers Club. He later took employment with the Army Corp of Engineers in Seattle. Rodney was currently employed as an accountant at the Ft. Lewis Army Base in Washington. He also worked a one year assignment in Baghdad, Iraq.
Rodney enjoyed his family, friends, his one year old granddaughter, Faith Ivy. He was a busy handyman around the home and always took time to call his mother in Columbus. He loved to fish for salmon in the Seattle area and enjoyed their dog Benji.
Survivors include his wife:Choe, daughter: Sharlene, son: Kevin, granddaughter: Faith Ivy Furby all of Spanaway, WA. Mother: Evelyn Furby, brother: Ron (Jeri) Furby all of Columbus, brother-in-law: James Sliva of Shickley along with many relatives and friends.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father: Ralph "Bud" Furby, sister: Patty Furby Sliva, infant brother: Daniel
