Roberta died Friday, July 4, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus, Nebraska.

Roberta Jean Gerber was born October 14, 1915 to Harry L. and Mary (Buell) Cowell in Peru, Nebraska. She attended Peru Normal School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Nebraska State Teachers College at Peru in 1939.

She married Ross E. Gerber June 3, 1939 and they resided in Nebraska City, NE until retiring to San Benito TX in 1979. They moved to Columbus NE in 1994 to be near family.

Roberta (Bertie) taught and coached girls volleyball in Dunbar, NE then taught business courses at Nebraska City High School until 1958. She left teaching to become office manager for her husbands business and later became director of Riverside Public Housing until her retirement.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City. Roberta enjoyed knitting, crafts, boating, fishing, bowling and traveling along with spending time with family.

Survivors include daughter Gayle (Ron) Callan of Columbus, granddaughter Shayne Callan of Marana, AZ, granddaughter Cori Callan, Columbus and great grandsons Ian Ciurej, Lincoln, NE, Ryan Ciurej and Brennan Ciurej, Columbus, granddaughter Jennifer (Ken) Huyghe of New Baltimore, Michigan, great granddaughters Kayla, Kennedy and grandson Jacob, all of Michigan, grandson Chris (Hui Kyong) and great granddaughter Phoebe, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ross in 2001, daughter Mary Beth Burgess, brothers Roland and Clinton Cowell and sisters Pauline Olson and Phyllis Menefee.
