Robert Mostek

August 3, 1953 — February 22, 2025

Robert Stanley Mostek, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on February 22nd, 2025 in Columbus, NE.

A celebration of life service will be held at McKown Funeral Home on Friday, February 28th from 5pm to 7pm. All family and friends are welcomed to attend.

Bob was born to Lonnie and Roma Mostek on August 3rd, 1953 at the Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the third of four children. He attended elementary school at Immaculate Conception Catholic before moving with his family to Columbus, NE in 1959. There, he graduated from Columbus High School in 1971. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the Navy where he served for six years.

Bob was known in the Navy for his infectiously cheerful manner and keen sense of humor. He was a conscientious and proficient worker, displayed initiative, dedication, and a can-do attitude. His admirable performance contributed to the high morale of his other shipmates, and all these traits would follow him for the rest of his military career and life.

After being honorably discharged in 1977, Bob briefly worked at Eller Plumbing and Heating before taking up employment with the Union Pacific railroad in 1979. Bob would retire after dedicating an astonishing 34 years working for the railroad. During his time with UPR, Bob established many friendships that would last throughout the rest of his life.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman, who had a deep passion for hunting and fishing. He admitted later in life to playing hooky at school multiple times to spend the entire day fishing with his friends. A lover of nature, he was very fond of gold prospecting trips, mushroom foraging, and metal detecting.  Bob was also a skilled taxidermist, stone carver, gardener, and repairman. He had a very imaginative and creative mind that allowed him to complete any task at hand. That is, of course, unless he was busy watching football.

Above all, Bob's most important role in life was being a father. His greatest pride was raising his daughter, Jade Mostek, in Duncan, Nebraska. He was extremely involved in her life, dedicating his whole being into being the most positive role model a child could have, and showed her undying love and devotion until his last moments. He was known to go above and beyond for her and the community. From coaching Duncan's Blue Jays, to fixing every bike tire in the neighborhood, and having firework shows for everyone around on the Fourth of July. Bob would do it all while wearing a smile on his face and holding a cup of coffee in one hand.
