Robert V. Mielak of Columbus died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Columbus.

Robert V. Mielak was born November 13, 1929 in Columbus, Nebraska to Joseph E. and Theresa (Gragert) Mielak. He served as a Sergeant in the National Guard from 1948 - 1953. Robert married Barbara Jones on June 11, 1951 at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. He served for the Columbus Police Department from 1952 - 1989 and worked as a criminal investigator from 1967 - 1989 when he retired. Robert was a member of St. Anthony Church and the Police Officers Association of Nebraska. He loved watching TV, especially John Wayne movies and also collected John Wayne memorabilia.
