Robert Messersmith

Robert "Bob" Messersmith, age 89, died Saturday, June 13, 2026, in Lincoln.

Memorial Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2026, at McKown Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Military Honors provided by The American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard will follow the service.

Robert Messersmith was born March 19, 1937, in Snyder, Nebraska to Robert and Roberta Messersmith. Bob served his country faithfully in the US Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1963. While he was stationed in Germany, Bob went on a blind date in March of 1958 with his future wife, Amanda. The couple was united in marriage on the base in Germany on November 29, 1958. The couple moved back to Bob's hometown of Columbus, NE in May of 1960.

Bob is survived by his four children; Larry Messersmith of Columbus, Patty (Derrick Barr) of Crofton, Pamela (Daniel) Windle of Columbus, and Terry (Jen) Messersmith of Lincoln. He was a proud grandfather of seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by several siblings and their spouses, nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Amanda, parents and brother Mike.
