Robert D. Malmstrom, 72, died Sunday May 6, 2001 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home and after 6 p.m. at St. Isidore Church. The vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Isidore Church. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post # 84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Bob was born September 24, 1928 in North Loup, NE to Reuben and Gertrude (Green) Malmstrom. He graduated from Scotia High School in 1946. On September 25, 1950 he married LaVerna R. Moravec in York, NE. He entered the US Army in 1951. He served in France and Germany before being discharged in 1953. He attended the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1955.

Bob worked as an accountant for the Illinois Power Co from 1955-1957 before returning to Nebraska where he worked for NPPD as an accountant and as the controller. He worked there for 32 years before retiring. Bob was a member of the church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council #938, various church committees, American Legion, Sertoma, Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club, and SCORE. He owned Falcon Specialty after retirement. He enjoyed athletic activities and his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife, LaVerna; father, Reuben of Scotia; daughter, Roberta (Cris) Nathan of Lincoln; son, Michael (Diane) Malmstrom of Omaha; daughter, Sharon (Ken) Garretson of Columbus; son, Thomas (Deidre) Malmstrom of Lincoln; daughter, Lynette Bogus of Minden; 15 grandchildren; brother, Lyle (Maxine) of Scotia and 2 sisters Norma Hansen of Albany, Oregon and Erna (Hal) Rockey of Eugene, Oregon.

He is preceded in death by his mother and his brother Warren.
