Robert died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Bob was born September 21, 1922 in Columbus, NE to A. W. and Mabel Clare (Reinhard) Frischholz. He attended St. Bonaventure grade and high school graduating in 1940. He worked as a stock boy at Woolworth's for a year before joining the Eighth Air Force in the summer of 1941. During WWII he was a crew chief and mechanic in England repairing and mending 3000 B 17's that bombed Germany. He reached the rank of Tech-Sergeant. Following his return home he worked in a factory in St. Louis, MO for a short time before getting his A & E License for airplane mechanics and working for Eastern Airlines in Miami, FL. He became a flight engineer (the third man in the cockpit) in the late 40's for that same airline. Bob flew to many destinations in the United States in constellations and then jets, working until 1962. For a time he worked for Chartered Airlines until joining Modern Air Transport in 1969. Modern was an American Airline flying out of West Berlin taking West Berliner's to vacation destinations over East Germany. He worked in Berlin until 1969. Returning to the states he joined the Detroit Flying Club and various airlines flying people and material to many destinations including South America. He logged 19,000 miles in the air and even had starlings damage the engines on a trip to Africa. He avoided a crash by immediately calling the attention of the captain who quickly landed the plane. Bob took two around the world trips, one with Modern and the other with the Detroit Flying Club. Bob returned to Columbus in 1983 to help care for his aging mother. He was seen around Columbus riding his bicycle until illness made riding impossible about three years ago. Bob was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, American Legion, V.F.W. and the Eagles Club.
He is survived by Rita Frischholz and Ina Claire Frischholz, his sisters, both of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
