Bob Carrig was born September 19, 1931 in Platte Center to Donald and Josephine (Evans) Carrig. He grew up in Platte Center and graduated from Platte Center High School. After high school, he joined the Air Force in 1951, where he became a jet mechanic stationed in Texas, Maine and Alaska. He worked on fighter jets and actually rebuilt a Lockheed T-33 from nothing but bare fuselage.
He met his wife, Charlee, before he went into the service and married her on July 28, 1954 at St. Bonaventure Church. After his service ended in 1955, he returned to Columbus and worked for Downtown Texaco, KC Auto Supply, Weaver's Potato Chips, Snap-On Tools, Cornwell Tools and BC Tools, as well as being a dispatcher at the Columbus Police Department, and for 22 years he was a bus driver for Columbus Public Schools and was known as "Bus Driver Bob".
Bob never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved to collect, carve and polish rocks and gems. He even carved crosses out of the old St. Anthony's marble back altar, which he gave to many priests, deacons and parishioners.
Bob was a member of St. Anthony Church and Knights of Columbus, Eucharistic Minister, a volunteer with USDA Commodities and the Platte County Museum, as well as being an honorary life member of the American Legion.
